Ailing Health Arun Sharma Tribune News Service
Chandigarh, May 9 It is another matter that the staff at the dispensary do not believe in punctuality. Patients are the ultimate sufferers as rarely does the dispensary open before 8.30 am. The recent advice of Punjab Governor and UT administrator Gen S.F. Rodrigues (retd) to doctors seems to have fallen on their deaf ears. Speaking at the health mela on May 13 at Bapu Dham colony, the Governor had warned doctors that they were losing the battle on healthcare front as the poor could not avail themselves of the services. Staff at dispensary have their own argument for their coming late to work. “We usually arrive at 8 am. It is just occasional that we arrive late,” said Dr Pradeep, who arrived at 8.35 am. A team of Chandigarh Tribune this morning found just two employees - a woman working in the room for revised national tuberculosis control programme (RNTCP) and a technician - reporting for work on time. The injection room and room meant for malaria tests were lying unattended to even after 8.40 am. The ultimate sufferers were patients and their attendants who had come to the dispensary early. Jugal Kishor Jha, a resident of colony, who came with his wife said: “I reached here around 8 am hoping to be relieved just in time for me to go to work, which begins at 9 am.” “But it seems I have to come another day, as I am running out of time,” rued Jha. On being asked about the doctor and registration clerk, a sweeper, busy at work around 8.15 am, said they would arrive shortly. The registration room attendant reached around 8.25 am. Dr Pradeep denied that they were habitual latecomers. |
