Contests mark end of nursing week

Mohali, May 12
The nursing week being celebrated at Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib School of Nursing concluded here today. Several events were organised during the week starting from May 6. These were organised in association with the Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib (C ) Eye Hospital Trust and Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Eye Hospital, Sohana.

The theme “Positive working environment” which had been selected by the Indian Nursing Council for the year 2007 was considered as theme for all events.

In a poster-making contest, Kamaldeep Kaur, Navpreet Kaur and Manvir Kaur won the first, second and third prizes, respectively, while in a writing contest, Done Spice Joseph, Jatinder Kaur and Ravneet Kaur stood first, second and third, respectively. In a seminar on health education, the first prize went to Navpreet Kaur while the second and third prizes went to Amritpal Kaur and Vaneeta Rawat, respectively. In a rangoli competition, Ranbir Kaur, Himmat Kaur and Mandeep Kaur bagged the first, second and third prizes, respectively, while teams comprising Jatinder Kaur and Manvir, Jatinderjit Kaur and Vaneeta Rawat and Manjt Kaur and Kamaldeep Kaur won the first, second and third prizes, respectively, in a quiz contest. All participants were given certificates of participation.

Medical camp concludes

Dera Bassi, May 12
The two-day free medical camp organised by the Sri Sukhmani Institute of Medical Sciences and Research concluded here yesterday.

Specialists of the departments of ophthalmology, gynaecology, general medicine, orthopaedics and dentistry examined the patient. Free blood sugar tests and ECG were conducted and medicines distributed among the patients. Patients suffering from cataract were operated upon.

Avtar Singh and Kanwaljit Kaur, chairman and director of the institute, respectively, explained the importance of such medical camps to create awareness about health problems.

400 take part in skating carnival

Panchkula, May 12
Rohit Bajaj of KBDAV-7, Chandigarh, rolled to the first place in the boys’ 14 to 16 years category, while Rishika of Sophia Convent, emerged winner in the four to six years girls’ category on the opening day of the skating carnival.
The carnival was organised by Doon Public School, Sector 21, here, on its campus.

Around 300 to 400 students from all over Mohali, Chandigarh and Panchkula participated.

The carnival was inaugurated by principal of Doon Public School Sanjay Anand. The students were divided into eight categories, i.e., u-4 years, 4 - 6 years, 6 - 8 years, 8 - 10 years, 10 - 12 years, 12 - 14 years, 14 - 16 years and 16 above.

The carnival started with a special race for the learners, after which these learners were given a chance to compete with the experts.

Billiards: Anandit in finals

Chandigarh, May 12
Anandit Joshi blazed his way to the finals after defeating Jaspal Singh 225-150 in the semifinals of the Sixth Saurabh Khattar Memorial Billiards and Snooker Championship, held at Chandigarh Club, here, today.

Akshat Chaudhary won the junior title in the snooker best of three frames defeating Rishabh Arora 2-1.

In another billiards semifinal match, Sandeep Chadha beat Vishal Gupta 152-62.

In the semifinals of best of five frames match, Deepinder beat Sandeep Chadha 3-2. — TNS
