‘Golden hour’ crucial: Doctors

Chandigarh, May 13
Though the hospital starts treating victims of hit and run cases soon as they reach there, the time taken in shifting the injured and the nature of injuries matter a great deal in the survival chances of the victims, says Dr Harsh Mohan medical superintendent, Government Medical College and Hospital, (GMCH), Chandigarh. In many cases excessive blood loss in limb injuries prove fatal. If the victims are shifted to the hospital immediately, precious lives can be saved.

In hit and run cases the victim is usually transported to the hospital by the police on being informed about the incident by the public, resulting in the loss of ‘golden hour’ which is important to save lives, says Dr Sonia of the PGI. — TNS
