Tribune Impact Geetanjali Gayatri Tribune News Service Chandigarh, May 15 Swinging into action after The Tribune report highlighting the disillusionment of the all-women panchayat, the officials arrived at the village with all their paraphernalia. They spoke to the village panchayat led by sarpanch Asubi Begam about the various problems they faced and assured their prompt redressal in future as well. Speaking to The Tribune over the phone, the Deputy Commissioner, CR Rana, said that they were very keen on making a success out of the all-women panchayat in the district. “We have been planning to visit them for very long but after reading today’s report in the newspaper, I directed by officers to go to the village and take stock of the situation. They have sought 15 days time to take care of all the problems to the satisfaction of the villagers,” he said. He explained that the water pipelines would be laid in the next fortnight to ensure the village has supply of clean drinking water. The officials carried out a spot inspection of the village to ascertain the difficulties faced by the villagers in fetching water. The team also agreed to replace the faulty electricity supply line with a new one to ensure uninterrupted power supply. While the stalled construction of a school building would be taken up with the Education Department, the administration will also put in a request for appointing a head teacher to facilitate release of funds available for education under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan. The villagers also put up a proposal for a sewing centre and an anaganwari at the village which will also be looked into. |
