Tribune News Service

New Delhi, May 16
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today set up an 11-member parliamentary committee to inquire into BJP MP Babubhai Katara's role in a human trafficking, misuse of MPs privileges and evolve guidelines for their conduct.

Headed by V.Kishore Chandra Deo, the committee comprises Gurudas Dasgupta (CPI), Anand Gangaram Geete (Shiv Sena), C. Kuppusami (Congress), Vijay Kumar Malhotra (BJP) Shrinivas Patil (NCP), Mohammad Salim (CPM), Braja Kishore Tripathi (BJD), Rajesh Verma (BSP), Devendra Prasad Yadav (RJD) and Ram Gopal Yadav (SP).

The committee will submit its report within a month.

An all-party meeting convened yesterday had authorised the Speaker to constitute a House panel to look into such cases of misconduct as well as misuse of facilities by members of the Lok Sabha.

The committee may also, if required, go into the desirability of defining what acts amount to misconduct on the part of the member and make suitable recommendations about action to be taken in such cases.

In announcing the constitution of the committee, Chatterjee said he would decide whether the member or members concerned in each case be allowed to attend the House till a decision is taken after the submission of the committee's report.
