New Delhi, May 17
The Supreme Court today refused stay on wheat import on a petition filed by farm activist Vandana Shiva, seeking quashing of the government's decision to import one million tonnes of wheat by July 2007.

The three-judge Supreme Court bench was headed by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan. In an affidavit, Shiva had sought a direction to the government to ban future trading in foodgrains.

She had also urged that MNCs and private traders be banned from purchasing directly from farmers. — PTI
