Hospitality opens the door to work opportunities of varied kinds, says Nisheeth Srivastava, Director, FHRAI Institute of Hospitality Management, Greater Noida. Excerpts from an interview: What is the scope of hospitality management? Hospitality management is emerging as one of the fastest growing sectors worldwide, which entails a massive demand for trained professionals. Moreover, the hospitality sector has not remained restricted to the hotel and restaurant industry but also includes areas like aviation, travel agencies, shipping, public relations and corporate communication. What is the scope for hospitality
professionals in India? The growing economy of the country and its emergence as a global market have made hospitality a booming sector. A large number of foreign tourists and investors are heading towards India, which is again a healthy sign. The Commonwealth Games slated to be organised in India in 2010 have further brightened the prospects. What challenges lie before hospitality management professionals? It is true, managing a hotel or restaurant or hospitality company is not easy. It is surprisingly complex but also provides various challenges. What qualities do you look for in youngsters aspiring to join the sector? We permanently look for ambitious, highly motivated young people who have that extra spark and talent to face the challenges of the industry. — Sunit Dhawan
