Indian-American, daughter killed in California

Silicon Valley, May 27
An Indian father-daughter duo was killed, their bodies badly burnt, while the mother was brutally beaten and left outside their burning home in California.

The charred bodies of Jayprakash Dhanak, 56, and his daughter Karishma Dhanak, 20, were discovered early this week near a bike trail in Irvine.

The bodies were discovered five hours after Leela Dhanak, 53, was found beaten outside the family’s burning home in Anaheim Hills.

While Karishma’s body was identified earlier, “the coroner has confirmed his identity through dental records,” Anaheim police officer Rick Martinez said.

Leela remains hospitalised with severe injuries on her head and upper body, which has prevented investigators from speaking to her. Another daughter, Shayona, 18, was not at home at the time of the incident.

“Her injuries are so substantial that we don’t believe we are going to talk to her for a long period of time,” Martinez said, adding the police was questioning friend and neighbours in connection with the brutal attack on the family. — PTI
