Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, May 29
The Gynecology Department at the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) held a bone mass density (BMD) camp, free of cost, here today, in its second phase of its ongoing activity at the menopausal clinic.

At the commencement of the clinic, more than 150 women were tested for BMD on May 15 while today 240 women were tested. Dr Mary Abraham, head of the Department of Gynecology said BMD test was a painless procedure that helped in gauging a patient’s bone density to check bone loss and osteoporosis. Since, bone loss increased significantly in post-menopausal women, it made them more vulnerable to fractures. Therefore, this test became necessary for women in the forty plus age group.

Those undergoing the BMD test, were provided counseling in terms of diet, calcium intake, exercise and other lifestyle modifications.

The CMCH had launched the menopausal clinic to provide the facility of diagnosis and treatment to the post-menopausal women. The clinic also rendered consultation for preventive check up of menopause-related problems that could occur in future.
