Tribune News Service

New Delhi, May 29
BJP president Rajnath Singh today announced a list of state in charge and party cells and sought to sideline general secretary Arun Jaitley by allocating him Uttar Pradesh where the party had suffered defeat.

While former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shanta Kumar has been given the charge of Jammu and Kashmir, former Chandigarh Lok Sabha MP Satpal Jain has been made in charge of Himachal Pradesh.

Former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma is given the charge of Punjab and Chandigarh and former Delhi Lok Sabha MP Vijay Goyal is the in charge of Haryana, a BJP communique said.

Delhi has been handed over to BJP general secretary Thawar Singh Gehlot and Rajasthan has gone to Gopinath Munde.

Sources said Rajnath Singh had sought to marginalise Jaitley further as persons perceived to be close to the general secretary had either been denied any position or given insignificant positions.

Another former joint convener of the media cell Amitabh Sinha has staged a comeback and has been made head of the intellectual cell of the party.

Former minister in the NDA Jual Oram has been made the in charge of Nagaland.
