students shine Doraha:
The BCA students of A S College for Boys have earned laurels for the institution by securing a good percentage of marks in the annual examinations conducted by Panjab University in April. Navjot Kaur stood first in the college with 554 marks out of 800 (81.75 per cent). Similarly, Richa Rani scored 614 marks out of 800 (76.75 per cent) and was placed on the second position. Chandra Gajal got third place in the college as he got 590 out of 800 marks (73.75 per cent). |
Harvest of a 50-year journey
Ludhiana, June 4 Kewal Dheer is a noted writer of fiction, literary aesthete and a highly gifted person of culture. He has 67 published books to his credit. A commemorative volume of his works, 'Golden Harvest', was released today. Tributes were paid to Dheer, who has been honoured with 35 national and international awards, which include Sahityashree National Award, Shiromani Urdu Sahitkar Award and 10 awards from various akademis of India. He has been conferred with an honorary degree of Doctor of Literature by W Kennedy University, USA. Dheer is also an eminent playwright and has written more than 25 TV serials and plays. He is also a popular radio and TV compere. He is the founder general secretary of the Adeeb International, an organisation which has been organising annual 'Jashn-e-Sahir' in memory of great Urdu poet Sahir Ludhianvi regularly for the last 34 years. Born in Gago in Vehari (previously Montgomery) district of present Pakistan on October 5, 1938, Dheer obtained education in Phagwara and degree in Medicine from Patna Medical College. He started writing in is early 20s and his first book of short stories, 'Dharti Ro Pari', was published in the year 1957. He has published eight volumes of short stories and five novels, besides two travelogues on journeys to Pakistan, USA, UK, Canada and several other European countries. He has written more than four dozen books on literature, psychology, sexology and medicine. Global peace and social concerns remain the main themes of his writings. |
