Drain polluted water from forest area: MC

The municipal corporation authorities today ordered the draining of polluted water from the forest area on the Ludhiana-Jalandhar road that was threatening a number of trees.

Ludhiana, June 6 The city police today claimed to have busted a racket of ‘stock witnesses’, who were using fake documents, farad and other registration documents for standing as a guarantee in bail bonds. Four arrested on murder charge

Ludhiana, June 6 Enmity between rival gangs of pickpockets allegedly led to the gruesome murder of one of them on the intervening night of May 31 and June 1. The victim was first beaten up, then stoned to death and later set on fire to hide his identity. A police official gives details to mediapersons on Wednesday about the murder that occurred on the night of May 31 in Ludhiana.

Directive on Unsolicited Calls
Boon for users, to hit telemarketing industry
Ludhiana, June 6
City residents have termed the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) direction pertaining to unsolicited calls as a welcome move. Unsolicited commercial calls and text messages would attract a penalty of Rs 500 per call, the regulatory authority has directed.

More units enrol with effluent treatment plant

Kisan club members for delay in elections
Ludhiana June 6
Some members of the Punjab Kisan Club have sought the postponement of the elections to the club for various reasons. They said although the elections are held in January but these have been continuously deferred.

BKU for direct payment to farmers
Ludhiana, June 6
Members of the Bharitya Kisan Union (BKU) and commission agents (arhtiyas) seem to be at loggerheads over the issue of payment to the farmers for their produce. While the BKU favours a direct payment to the farmers, the arhtiyas want it to be routed through them. Recently the Punjab Mandi Board had passed a unanimous resolution to this effect, which is being opposed by the commission agents.
