City doc to head disciplinary committee

A city-based doctor and member of Punjab Medical Council (PMC) Dr Anurag Goswami was unanimously elected the chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the Punjab Medical Council (PMC). Dr Goswami will step into the shoes of Dr Gursharan Singh, another local physician, who was chairman of the committee for the past three years.

Dr Goswami expressed his gratitude towards the medical community for posing its faith in him. He reiterated his commitment to work hard to uphold the ideals of the noble profession of medicine and to carry on the good work done by his predecessors.

Dr P S Bakshi from Jalandhar, who was also elected unanimously, would head the Ethical Committee of PMC. Another Jalandhar-based PMC member Dr H S Mann was unanimously elected vice-president of the council. Dr Vinod Sood of Khanna and Dr B S Shah (Ludhiana) were made conveners of Legal and CME Committees, respectively. Besides these permanent committees a couple of temporary committees were also formed.

A large number of local doctors in private practice, besides those from several medical institutions like the Christian Medical College and Hospital, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Mohan Dai Oswal Hospital and Guru Teg Bahadur Charitable Hospital congratulated Dr Goswami on his being elected as chairman of the Disciplinary Committee.

Parul steers Mahajan XI to final

Ludhiana, June 14
Parul Mehdiratta, a student of Jain Public School, Benjamin Road, steered Mahajan XI to a 20-run victory over Coaching Centre XI and secured a berth for his team in the final of the 11th Chaman Lal Malhotra Cricket Cup Tournament (u-14) being organised by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association at Arya College ground here today. Parul remained unconquered on 96.

Coaching Centre skipper, Tejas Taneja, won the toss and elected to field. Mahajan XI openers, Dipin Chitkara, student of Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, and Parul Mehdiratta gave a flying start. The pair made 92 runs for the first wicket before being separated.

Dipin scored 24 runs while Parul made 92 which comprised of 17 hits to the fence. Mahajan XI captain, Chirag Maria, remained unbeaten on 22. All the three batsmen of Mahajan XI got themselves run out.

In reply, Coaching Centre XI could muster 142 runs for the loss of six wickets when they ran out of overs. Skipper Tejas of Saraswati Model School, Hambran Road, played a fine knock of 52 runs which however, went in vain while Gurneet and Nimit contributed 13 runs each. Rishabh and Kush made 10 runs each.

With this, Mahajan XI won all their three league matches while Coaching Centre XI managed two victories, losing one, to settle for the title clash.

The last league fixture, slated for tomorrow, between Pankaj Club and Super Club will merely be of academic interest since both the teams are yet to open their account in this week-long league tournament
