Indian students motivated, says Scottish educationist
Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, June 17
There has been a great demand for Indian students in European and other countries. Being highly motivated, committed to studies and hard working, these countries try to target Indian students offering lots of lucrative study packages and job opportunities. These views were expressed by John Muir, director, AYR College, Scotland.

Muir was in city today to throw light on foundation courses offered to Indian students by the AYR in association with the Canadian Institute of International Studies.

Muir said the foundation courses include engineering (electrical and mechanical), fashion designing and computer graphics etc. After the course, students get training and a majority of them are absorbed there itself. Besides, there are courses in hospitality, accounting and financial services, business, tourism, administration, visual arts, digital techniques, film broadcasting, acting, sound production and child care etc.

Speaking on the problem of racism, Muir said though racism was prevalent to some extent in English society, people in Scotland were of adaptive nature. They have been encouraging and supporting too. The Scottish society has long-standing equation with Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladesh people. "I do not see any threat to Indians in Scotland."

Giving details about the job opportunities, he added that after foundation courses, students can opt for a degree or a diploma programme and simultaneously work for 20 hours a week in UK earning 10 pounds per hour, which makes their stay and education much more affordable. "A two-year work permit comes automatically and even permanent residency status on that basis is up for grabs for any Indian student", he claimed.
