Demilitarisation Jammu, June 17 Announcing the withdrawal of support at a press conference here, Panthers Party chairman Bhim Singh also released a 25-point charge sheet against the Ghulam Nabi Azad government, which was submitted to Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi today. This withdrawal of support has, however, not posed any threat to the government as it still holds a majority well above the required mark of 50 in the 89-member Assembly. The Panthers Party has four members in the Assembly, Harsh Dev, Balwant Singh, Fakir Nath and Yashpal Kundal, while Bhim Singh himself is the lone party member in the state's Legislative Council. ''I am feeling relaxed now as our party is now in the opposition,'' Bhim Singh said pointing out that the Panthers Party had no say in the present government in the past four years and eight months of its term. Dubbing the government's main ally, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), anti-national, Bhim Singh said Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was compromising on the issue of demilitarisation as the PDP leadership was pressurising him into withdrawing troops in J and K. He said PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had been campaigning publicly with ''full support of Doordarshan and Radio Kashmir'' against the Army and for the so-called demilitarisation, thereby, identifying the Indian Army as the occupational force in their own country, Bhim Singh stated in the 25-point charge sheet. The Panthers Party chief also stated that the ruling Congress and its ally, the PDP, had deviated from their commitment of constituting a delimitation committee which also was part of their Common Minimum Programme (CMP). Bhim Singh also stated that a Bill for equal number of Assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir provinces, as introduced by the Panthers Party in the Assembly, was opposed by the Congress and the PDP. The other issues highlighted in the charge sheet against the Azad government mainly included- ''denial to the proposal of constituting a state finance commission, discrimination against daily wage and casual workers of Jammu region, non-issuance of Dogra certificate to the Do gras of Jammu region, district-level posts opened for entire state, discrimination against Jammu migrants, denial of justice to refugees and failure to hold district development board meetings. |
