Admin clears air on affidavits
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, June 19
The Chandigarh administration has again directed all departments not to ask for any affidavit along with applications from the general public for any work or services accept in cases where the provision to obtain an affidavit exists in the statute.

It had already been decided to do away with the requirement of attaching attested copies of certificates along with applications forms for government jobs or admission to educational institutions in the city.

Instead, the applications forms will now contain a column wherein the applicant will be required to furnish information about his caste and residential status.

At the stage of interview or admission, the applicant will have to produce the original document and a self-attested copy of each document for verification. The photograph on the application form will also be self-attested by the applicant.

It had come to the notice of administration that some departments were still insisting on affidavits or copies of documents attested by a gazetted officer for government jobs or admission to various educational institutions.

The administration has made it clear that no such affidavits or documents attested by a gazetted officer are required for the above said purposes.
