Students discovering new courses, finds survey
Ludhiana, June 22 This was found in a survey conducted recently by Harpreet Singh, a city- based management professional. The mindset of the students was shifting from conventional engineering, commerce and management courses to the courses, where artistic skills were involved. The realty sector had primarily contributed to this change. The demand for streams like architecture and interior designing had increased since past year. The basic fact behind it was the urge to be a self-employed person than to be a job seeker. “Though Ludhiana is having engineering and medical colleges, not many institutes offer courses in these new upcoming streams. There are not many seats available in degree courses in fashion designing, thus the students have to move to other nearby cities for the courses”, said Harpreet. He further suggested that city still needed national level institutions like IIM, IIT or university for professional streams apart from agriculture and basic sciences. More number of students in professional streams like architecture, fashion design, MBA, engineering and pharmacy were taking admissions in institutions located in other nearby areas like Chandigarh, Phagwara, Jalandhar, Mandi Gobindgarh, because of unavailability of sufficient seats in Ludhiana. It was found in the survey that local students went to several km away from city to attend these courses as other institutions had also arranged the bus facility. |
