MSc result: Guru Nanak Dev University has declared the entrance test result conducted on June 22 for admission to M.Sc. molecular biology and biochemistry (part I). The result is available on the university website www.gnduonline.org and has also been displayed on the notice board of the department. Head of the department S.K. Garg said 135 candidates had appeared in the test out of which 50 qualified for 10 seats of M.Sc. molecular biology and biochemistry.
Counselling: GND University has released the counselling schedule for admission to M Sc (physics) part I for the year 2007 on July 5 and 6. Dr B.S. Bajwa, head of the Physics Department, said the counselling for all reserved category candidates who had qualified (SC/ST 20 per cent; others 30 per cent) in the entrance test would be conducted on July 5 at 10 am. General Category candidates with up to the 64 marks in the test should attend the admission interview on July 6 at the same time in the department.
Applications: Guru Nanak Dev University has invited applications on prescribed forms from NRI/ NRI-sponsored candidates, including those for which state/national-level entrance tests were conducted, for admission to various courses at the university here and its regional campuses at Jalandhar and
Gurdaspur. Disclosing this, Dr T.D. Narang, dean, Academic Affairs, said the interested NRI/NRI-sponsored candidates could apply to the respective head of the department by July 10.
Heroin seized: The Special Narcotics Cell (SNC) has arrested Roshan
Lal, alias Roshi, of Maan Khera village, Batala district, and seized 5 kg heroin from him while two of his accomplices, Harbhajan Singh and his son Ranjit
Rana, managed to escape from the spot.This was stated by Tulsi Ram,
SSP,SNC, at a press conference here on Saturday.The police has registered a case under Sections 21, 29, 62 and 85, NDPS Act, at A-Division police station in this regard.

Gang of cheats: The local police has busted a seven-member inter-state gang of cheats involved in 14 incidents in different states. They had duped financers and traders to the tune of Rs 40 lakh.This was stated by SSP Barnala Paramjit Singh Grewal at a press conference here on Saturday. While Balbir Singh of Barnala and Jasbir Singh of Bhadaur had been arrested five others, Gurpreet Singh, Jasbir Singh, Raghbir Singh, Bant Singh and Baggu Singh, were still at large.

Sex racket busted: A sex racket, being run from a house in Maan Nagar area, was busted by the police here on Saturday. Four persons, including three women, have been arrested. They have been identified as Kulbir Kaur, Jasbir Kaur, Kamlesh Kumari and Balwinder Singh.

Train mows 20 cows: A passenger train ran over more than 20 cows on the Bathinda-Ferozepur rail track, near Guru Nanak Nagar, here on Saturday. According to the reports, around 25 cows, belonging to Rajasthan migrants residing near the rail track, were hit by the train. Twenty cows killed on the spot.

SI assaulted, accused nabbed: Some persons residing in Ali Mohalla attacked SI Harbhajan Singh when he had gone there to nab the accused in connection with a clash between two groups on Friday. The attackers also tried to snatch his service revolver. The SI saved himself after hiding in a house in the locality. Later a police force, including the CRPF, was sent to the spot. SI was admitted to the Civil Hospital. However, the accused fled. Later, Shammi, the main accused of attacking SI, was arrested in the evening, the SHO added.

Girl abducted: Dr Vicky, a resident of Sarli Khurd village falling under Verowal police station, allegedly abducted a girl of his village after intoxicating her mother.The police has registered a case under sections 328,362 and 366,
IPC, against the accused. The mother of the victim, in her complaint to the police, said Vicky gave her some intoxicant and afterwhich she became unconscious. In the morning when she woke up she found her daughter was missing.
