He has been keeping up the family tradition. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, he has become one of the most prominent yoga instructors in the country.

Meet yoga ‘guru’ Chander Kant Mishra, who has been teaching the old-age technique of yoga to people all over the country.

“Yoga is the only remedy which can enable people to lead a stress-free and peaceful life, besides helping them remain physically fit in this competitive world,” said Mishra, who is conducting a yoga camp at Hotel Mountview, Sector 10, here. 90 persons are taking part in this camp.

Mishra, who has postgraduate diploma in yoga education from Agra, shot to fame when he conducted yoga classes for the national weightlifting, athletics, boxing, wrestling, judo and hockey teams before their participation in the 2000 Olympics held at Sydney. Besides, Mishra had also held special yoga camps for Nepal’s wrestling team, Sri Lankan gymnasts and athletics coaches at NIS, Patiala.

“In the sports field, yoga has become an integral part because with its ‘asnaas’ one can improve his/her concentration, physical strength and flexibility. Even complicated injuries like ‘tennis elbow’ can be cured by yoga,” said Mishra, who is working as a Sports Authority of India coach with the NIS, Patiala.

COA Election Row
Rival faction to fight it out legally
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, June 24
The Chandigarh Olympic Association’s election row got murkier with the rival faction of Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi group deciding to fight a legal battle against the holding of annual general meeting (AGM) followed by elections to the association yesterday.

According to Vijay Pal, former treasurer of association, they will follow up the court case that they have filed in the court of Senior Civil Judge J.S. Bhinder against the conducting of election by the Sodhi group in an undemocratic manner.

This was decided at a meeting held by the rival faction at Punjab Bhavan, Sector 3, today.

“The office-bearers of 20 units were present at the meeting. As the AGM held by Gurmit Singh Sodhi and Ravinder Talwar on June 23 was unauthorised, illegal and against the provisions of the constitution of the COA, the members felt that in order to undo the wrong, the association would seek justice through court,” said Vijay Pal.

Besides, a reference would also be moved to the Chandigarh administration to apprise them of the situation.

Sodhi and Talwar were wrongfully claiming the strength of 23 units as nine amongst them were never affiliated and their voting was illegal, held Vijay.

As such the election scheduled for June 24 was kept in abeyance till such time the court case was finalised. A plea would be made to the court to hold free and fair elections under its supervision, he added.

The members also expressed concern over the allegations of fraud, misappropriation, embezzlement and forgery in financial matters and desired a probe by the investigating agency.

It was further resolved by the members that with a view to maintaining harmony and avoiding any harm to the interest of sportspersons no parallel body would be created.
