Agitating MP teachers lathicharged

Bhopal, June 26
Several agitating teachers, demanding better salaries and designation, were lathicharged by the police today as they were advancing towards the Chief Minister’s residence.

They were agitating under the banner of the Madhya Pradesh State Shiksha Guarantee Guruji Sangh. Denying the lathicharge, a senior police officer said “mild force” was exercised to lift a blockade at the bustling Roshanpura crossing.

On the other hand, sangh president Sandarbh Singh Baghel said the police suddenly lathicharged after lobbing tear gas shells, hurting over 50 persons.

Thousands of teachers gathered in the Tinshed area demanding to regularise their services on the lines of shiksha karmis (education workers). Nearly 38,000 teachers are employed at “shiksha guarantee” schools. Later, the rally proceeded towards the Chief Minister’s residence. When the police attempted to stop it at Roshanpura, the teachers staged the blockade. — UNI
