Free dental care for rural population
Ludhiana, June 27 Large number of residents of the area availed of the benefits of the comprehensive dental check up, extended by a team of senior dental surgeons headed by Dr Pawan Arora, head, community dentistry department, and Dr Ashish Kumar while Dr Hardeep Singh co-ordinated the camp activities. The camp was initiated with dental awareness talk and the rural population was introduced to an interactive multimedia-aided presentation, showing common dental ailments and basic corrective treatments with the help of interesting visuals and easy to understand audio details. The objective was to make people understand the basics of dental procedure that they underwent, in order to remove all misconceptions about dental treatment. Those attending the camp were also educated about healthy dietary habits, good oral hygiene routine and periodical dental check ups. The importance of age old dictum “prevention is better than cure” was elaborated and stressed upon. Doctors at the camp maintained that except for traumatic age-related problems, almost all dental diseases could be prevented with little extra care and good oral hygiene. Right brushing techniques were also demonstrated. A team of dental surgeons and paramedical staff, equipped with mobile dental van and dental chairs, provided comprehensive diagnosis and advice on follow-up treatment. Every patient was given a “patient card” which was basically a report summary of the diagnosed problem and the recommended treatment plan. Those diagnosed with dental problems and requiring follow-up treatment were offered special concessions for their visits to the hospital in future. Free medicines for various dental problems were also distributed by the hospital and residents were assured that periodic follow-up camps would be held in the same locality to ensure continuous dental health benefits to them. |
International Day Against Drug Abuse
Ludhiana, June 27 Davinder Singh Juneja, chairman, Kesh Sambhal Prachar Sanstha, was chief guest on the occasion while Gianinder Singh, district sports officer, presided over the event. Speaking on the occasion, Juneja appreciated the efforts of the DSO for celebrating International Day Against Drug Abuse to create awareness among sportspersons and warned them to be watchful against the growing network of this menace. Dr Pushpinder Singh, anesthetist, GTB Hospital, showed movie clips about drug abuse and demonstrated its impact on health through a slideshow. He suggested the sportspersons to explore their original strength through perspiration, hard work and commitment and not take refuge in drugs. Dr Deepinder Singh of L.M.H Medical College, gave an impressive presentation on sports and drugs and analysed the effect of anabolic steroids on mental and physical well being of sportspersons. Harbans Singh, incharge, Sports Authority of India, appealed to the youngsters to safeguard the strength and integrity of the country and remain free from the evil clutches of drug abuse. Prof Balwinderpal Singh congratulated the organisers and discussed the theme of the day. “Let the life be controlled by noble deeds, spirituality and inner strength rather than by the claws of drugs,” he said. Jasbir Singh, president, YES Club, spoke on the increasing tobacco menace and the havoc caused by it. He urged the sports persons to become role models and join hands with the club to save others from the clutches of drugs. On the occasion, sportspersons and others pledged to remain drug-free for the rest of their lives besides motivating family and friends about it and pave the path for a drug-free society. Earlier, Jaspal Singh, football coach, welcomed the guests and participants.
