Kerosene seized: The CIA staff intercepted a pick-up van near Danewala Satkosi village on the Hindumalkot defence road and seized three drums of kerosene during search. However, all occupants of the jeep managed to escape. They were identified as Sukhpal, a resident of Panjkosi village, Krishan Lal and Khet Pal of Ghamoodwali village.

Loans disbursed: As much as Rs 734 crore has been disbursed as loans in Barnala district for the development schemes during the year 2006-2007. DC V.K. Ohri stated this during the inauguration of the first DLRC meeting of banks on Friday. He said of this amount, Rs 713 crore had been given as advances to priority sectors including health, education, agriculture, SSI, housing, etc.

Fake currency haul; 2 held: The Batala police have arrested
two persons, Randhir Singh and Mohinder Singh, residents of Pabrali
Malum, and recovered fake currency of Rs 8,500 from their possession.
The currency was in the denomination of Rs 500, Rs 100 and Rs 50.
Their third accomplice Bhagwan Singh managed to flee from the spot.Cash looted:
Two unidentified motorcycle borne youth looted Rs 11,000 and a mobile
phone from a petrol pump employees at Dera Baba Nanak on Thursday .
Before fleeing from the spot they broke down the telephone set at the
pump.

Patwari nabbed:
The Vigilance Department of Hoshiarpur caught a Patwari of village
Nangal Khunga while accepting bribe of Rs 1000 for making an Intkal
(mutation) of the land of Manjit Singh of the same village at
Patwarkhana, at Tanda on Friday.
Snatchers
held: The Model Town police caught two purse snatchers while
they were trying to escape after snatching a purse containing Rs 425
from Balwinder Kaur on Thursday evening. They accused have been
identified as Daler Singh and Gurdev Singh and have been booked.
MALERKOTLA
Protest against doctor: Relatives of Bholi (35), wife of Akbar Khan, who died at the PGIMER in Chandigarh on Monday, staged a dharna to protest against a doctor running a private hospital adjoining the Civil Hospital here. Bholi was a resident of Dugni village. The police has initiated proceedings.
MOGA
Contraband seized: The Nihal Singh Wala police station held two with 2.9 quintal poppy husk during a naka on Thursday. The accused have been identified as Gurmail Singh of Sanghowal village and Kanwalijit Singh, alias, Kamma of Moae Sahib village. The contraband was stuffed in 13 bags, police sources said.
Ex-MLA’s kin booked: Harpreet Singh, grandson of former Akali MLA from Baghpurana, Sadhu Singh Rajeana, was booked for misbehaving with Head Constable Sahib Singh of the Sadar police station on Thursday. Sources said after the HC let go off a man who had been held on Harpreet’s insistence, the latter misbehaved with the cop. The district police chief said inquiry would be held and the guilty would be punished. Meanwhile, Sadhu Singh said it was a political conspiracy to defame his family.
PATHANKOT
Traders’ rehabilitation: The local administration has decided to rehabilitate over 30 shopkeepers who were uprooted from the city market during a demolition drive on the Amritsar-Pathankot-Kullu road last month. SDM Surinder Mohan Sharma said booths would be allotted in a shopping complex developed by the Pathankot Improvement Trust in Lamini area. He said applications had been sought from the affected parties.

Two killed: Two persons were killed while another sustained injuries in two separate mishaps, near here, on Thursday night. According to reports, one Channi of Flywala was electrocuted when he was ironing clothes on Thursday evening. In the second incident, one Channo was killed and her husband Shammi was injured when a speeding Scorpio hit their motorcycle on Phillaur road. A case has been
registered.
