Ludhiana, June 30
A diabetic clinic was today inaugurated at Guru Teg Bahadur Charitable Hospital, here by parliamentary secretary Harish Rai Dhanda.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhanda stressed on the need for providing affordable medical care to the people, particularly for the poor and under-privileged section of the society.

Disclosing the functions of the clinic, medical superintendent of the hospital R.S. Sodhi said that the clinic will render a comprehensive care for diabetic patients.

The medical specialists and supporting staff at the clinic would also create awareness among the affected persons to take special care of their lifestyle, eating habits, eyes and lower limbs.

BBS Sobti and Bakshi Mohinder Singh, chairman of the hospital trust dwelt upon the future expansion plans of the institution. Among others present at the function were Joginder Singh Eros, Joginder Singh Makkar, Inder Singh Chawla, Balbir Singh, Harbhajan Singh and S.S. Bindra.

The Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) training centre hostel at the multipurpose hall of the Guru Nanak Sports Complex here is being renovated.

The centre which had remained idle for the past about nine years with unkempt washrooms and broken doors is being given a facelift to provide better premises to trainees expected to join the hostel in July.

Harbans Singh, senior weightlifting coach and state coordinator of SAI, has been appointed in charge of the centre. He said the renovation of the administrative block as well as rooms which started in the last week of May was expected to complete by the mid of July.

S.S. Rai, regional director, SAI at Sonepat, while talking to this correspondent over phone, said he had visited the centre in Ludhiana a few days ago and expressed satisfaction over the renovation work being carried over.

"With the setting up of the SAI training centre, the status of games in this part of the region will improve and e thplayers will be benefited," Rai expressed the hope.

SAI will conduct selection trials for admission of players to its newly established training centre, at the Multipurpose Complex, near Guru Nanak Stadium.

The trials will be held in the disciplines of athletics, judo and weightlifting in the residential and non-residential scheme for boys from July 4 to July 6 at the stadium.

According to Harbans Singh, in charge, SAI training centre, the trials will be conducted under the non-residential scheme in basketball and handball for boys while volleyball and judo for girl players only.

The players who have secured the first, second and third positions in the national or state-level competitions and in the age group 14- 19 are eligible to appear for the trials.

The selected players will be provided facilities like boarding, lodging, coaching and limited competition exposure while stipend, sports kit, life insurance cover and outside competition exposure as per scheme norms for all regular and day-boarding players.

The interested players are suggested to report for trials on July 4 to Harbans Singh, with two passport size photographs, original and photostat copies of their sports certificate at multipurpose stadium.
