1 killed: A medicine company representative (MR) was killed in a road mishap on Friday night. Vijay Kumar (32) of Jaswant Nagar had gone to supply medicines to a dealer at 7.30 p.m. on Abohar-Hanumangarh road on his motorcycle when an unidentified vehicle hit him and fled. He was rushed to the civil hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Father kills daughter: A man, who had deserted his wife a few months back, allegedly beat his six-year-old daughter to death in the Kesarisinghpur area of Sriganganagar on Friday, the police said on Saturday. According to the elder sister of the victim, her father, Thanwer
Dass, who was drunk, entered the house and for no reason started beating the child which led to her death. He fled after committing the crime. The police has registered a case under Section 302 of the

Elected: The governing council of Khalsa College, Amritsar, at its meeting held here on Saturday, unanimously elected Rajmohinder Singh Majithia as chancellor, Dharambir Singh Jolly as rector and Satyajit Singh Majithia as president. The new president nominated Charanjit Singh Chadha as vice-president and Mohan Singh Chhina as honorary secretary.

Man molests 5-yr-old, booked: The district police has today registered a case against Jinder (42), a resident of village
Ratenda, for allegedly molesting his 5-year-old girl neighbour. The victim was alone at the time of incident. The matter came to light when the victim told her grandmother about the incident. The accused, who is still at large, is father of four children including two daughters.

Flood control: In the wake of 42 villages in Phillaur sub-division being identified as sensitive to floods, Phillaur SDM Pritam Singh announced on Saturday evening, that the flood control centre would start functioning round-the-clock in Phillaur as well as in 13 villages from July 1. He said officials of the drainage department had been directed to inspect all possible breaches in Dhusi Bandh and make necessary arrangements for strengthening it.
