HC takes suo motu notice of Tribune report on jails Chandigarh, July 3 In its order, a Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justice P.Sathasivam and Justice Rajive Bhalla, stated: "We are of the view that inmates of the jails, particularly women prisoners, are not provided minimum requirements”. The Bench directed that the authorities concerned should submit their reply in a particular proforma, with reference to the problems highlighted in The Tribune today. The matter was directed to be placed before the Chief Justice for listing before an appropriate Bench.Meanwhile, following The Tribune reports on the plight of women housed in Jalandhar Central Jail, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Gujral today donated Rs 25 lakh from his MPLAD fund. The money has been donated for the construction of lavatories for women inmates of the jail, where 86 prisoners share just four toilets and baths. |
