Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, July 4
Dr B.S Parihar, an eminent Urdu poet, editor, translator, learner and professor in English, was the keynote speaker on the third day of a five-day symposium-cum-workshop on "Teaching Methodologies for Engineers" organised by the Training and Placement Cell of Ludhiana College of Engineering and Technology (LCET) on the college campus.

Dr Parihar, as a bilingual critic advised the faculty to use the language as a tool to develop the personality of students so that they can be good human beings. He told the young engineering and management faculty that there was no place for personal prejudices in this profession. He also told the faculty to inculcate right attitude and simplicity in the language to be effective teachers. He told them that the teachers were facilitators as well as seekers.

The keynote speaker said teaching was stimulation of intellect and humanistic effects could be decreased from this process. So a teacher in any situation should be ready to create decorum, neatness and transparency in teaching to provide a disciplined environment to the students in the classrooms. Dr Parihar, as an urdu poet captured the hearts of the young faculty by reciting some of his favourite lines from urdu language without which the session by an educationist like him would have been incomplete.

The second session was conducted by Rimpy Mehani, lecturer in chemistry, who called teachers leaders in the classrooms. The resource person for the last session of the day was Dr Charles H. Massey, who talked specifically about the common mistakes that the teachers make while teaching and simple ways to improve them in order to communicate better.

Dr J.S Sohal, Principal, LCET, presented mementos to the dignitaries present on the occasion and a vote of thanks was presented to the guests by Pawan Kumar, Professor in chemistry.
