850 enrolled in Class XI

Chandigarh, July 7
As many as 850 students were admitted to Class XI (general category) on the fourth day of counselling at GMSSS, Sector 23, here today.

Over 150 forms were reportedly misplaced today, creating panic among all present. The LCD screen, displaying the number of seats available in each stream, was also not working, causing great inconvenience to the public.

According to the spokesperson of the education department, all seats in the science stream at various government schools, barring GMSSSs - 18, Dhanas and MMC, have been filled. However, a few seats are still available in the commerce stream at GMSSS - MMC.

The cut-offs at GGSSS-8, GMS-23 and GMS-22 were 61.1 per cent, 62.4 per cent and 62.4 per cent, respectively. All seats in the commerce section at GMSs-8, 18 and 20 were filled today. The cut-offs in these schools were 60.2 per cent, 61.4 per cent and 59.2 per cent, respectively.

In the vocational stream, all seats for IT and ANM at GMSs-22 and 15 were filled today and the cut-offs were 65.6 per cent and 60.4 per cent, respectively. A few seats in other vocational courses are still lying vacant.

It has been observed that very few students have opted for the arts stream as most of the seats in this stream are still lying vacant.

Counselling will not take place tomorrow. Students, who have scored 53 per cent marks and above, will be interviewed on July 9. According to sources, about 1,073 students are expected to appear for the interviews.

Interviews for the admission to MSc (honours) I under the foreign nationals/persons of Indian origin/NRI/NRI-sponsored/industry-sponsored categories for the session 2007-08 is fixed at July 9 at 11 am in the department of bio-chemistry. The candidates are advised to bring their original documents/certificates at the time of interview. There is no seat available under the general category.

Counselling

Counselling for admissions to 4-year integrated course of BA honours BEd will be held on July 12 at 9 am at the department of education, Arts Block II. — TNS

Singing contest for juniors

Chandigarh, July 7
The Yaadgar-e-Rafi Society, Chandigarh, is holding the first round of the singing competition for the best singer award in male and female categories for junior participants below 18 years of age on July 15, 2007 at Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10, Chandigarh, at 8.00 am.

This time the society has dedicated the contest to music maestro O.P. Nayyar. Male singers will sing Rafi songs and the female Lata’s.

The winners in both categories will be recommended for the Star Plus programme Voice of India.
