Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, July 7
S.C. Ralhan, an entrepreneur and keynote speaker, apprised the faculty of how to face the challenges of producing the world-class skilled human resource in the technical institutions on the concluding day of the five-day symposium-cum-workshop on “Teaching methodologies for engineers”, organised at LCET.

Having visited almost all European countries, Dr Ralhan advised teachers to be transparent with students and arrange their training in industries which deal in the products or services of their interest.

The second session was conducted by Gurvinder Singh, assistant manager, HRD Corporate, International Tractors Limited. Singh explained the skills needed to be developed among the present time teachers to give a positive direction to their students to survive in this cut-throat competition.

He also stressed that the young teachers should update themselves with the requirements of the prospective employers of the budding engineers and assign them the related projects to prepare them before they enter the industry.

Being a HR professional, he also used tools of motivation and involved the young faculty in various games, which could energise them and do their duty with more zeal and enthusiasm. The senior professors and academicians answered the queries and doubts of the young faculty on the occasion.

J. S. Sohal, principal, LCET, appreciated the training and placement cell of the college for organising the faculty development programme.

Dues of one can’t be recovered from another
Forum quashes PSEB demand
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, July 7
Coming down heavily on the decision taken by the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) for recovering the dues of one consumer from another consumer, the district consumer forum has quashed the demand of Rs 95,954 and Rs 47,278. It has also directed the PSEB to pay Rs 2,000 as cost of litigation to the aggrieved consumer.

Forum president A.S. Narula and other members Puja Dewan and Daljit Singh Bakshi passed the order in favour of complainant Surinder Pal Singh of B.R.S Nagar. It also termed the disconnection of the electricity as unjustified.

The complainant in case submitted before the forum had stated that he purchased a property at Jawaddi and was regularly paying the electricity bills.

But, without any notice, his electricity connection was disconnected with a notice to clear the pending dues. His requests for not disconnecting the electricity fell on deaf ears.

On the other hand, PSEB officials justified their move. They said at the time of taking new electric connection, the complainant had given an undertaking to clear the pending dues, if any.

But, the forum observed that no such application form or undertaking was ever produced before it during the proceedings for proving their stand. The forum also remarked that the PSEB authorities even failed to prove that the connections in the name of Ravinder Singh and Rajinder Singh were installed on the same premises.
