‘Guided surgery’ for tooth implants
Ludhiana, July 7 According to Dr Akshay Vohra, the surgery is performed with the help of a special software developed for the purpose. He said this technology was being introduced for the first time in Punjab. Vohra has joined hands with Nobel Biocare for training in Las Vegas for ‘teeth-in-an-hour’ technique of implants. He returned recently from there after getting complete training about Nobel Biocare solutions. He has also attended many workshops and hands on sessions there. Elaborating the technique, he said the dentist plans the whole treatment in advance on the software which is called Nobel Guide. This technique is different from the traditional one, in which a patient has to wait for six months for teeth to be loaded. There are no stitches or cutting of gums involved. |

B.V.Sc course: 19 NRI seats filled
Ludhiana, July 7 Nineteen out of 20 NRI seats have been filled, which include four girls also. Majority of the NRI candidates admitted to the B.V.Sc course were from the USA and Canada. About 1, 215 students from various parts of the state appeared in the VET 2007, held on June 22. The third counselling will be organised on August 13. The total number of seats for Punjab and Chandigarh were 42, including those for reserved categories and two for Kashmiri migrants, have already been filled. There are 72 seats for the obtaining a degree veterinary course. |

Medicos attend seminar
Ludhiana, July 7 The seminar was attended by medical and veterinary officers of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and the CMCH. The participants deliberated upon fatal diseases like rabies, tuberculosis and brucellosis. Rajinder Bhandari, president, state BJP, was the chief guest and B.S. Sidhu, director, Animal Husbandry, was the guest of honour. The function was presided over by John Pramod, director, CMCH. Harbans Singh Dhalla, organising secretary of the seminar, said zoonosis was a disease which was transmissible from animals to humans and vice-versa. |

375 patients examined at camps
Ludhiana, July 7 As many as 375 persons between the age group of 2 and 80 were screened for anemia by testing blood for haemoglobin free of cost. Nearly 300 persons were found suffering from reduced quantity of Haemoglobin in the blood stream. Those with deficiency were given Haematinics in the form of capsules and liquids to improve their health status. Schoolchildren were also present in large numbers and were given de-worming medication free of cost, so that anaemia could not recur and the benefit of haematinic medication should last long. |
