Vain Poin (Tarn Taran), July 7
A middle aged woman was allegedly paraded naked after being molested and beaten up by a group of 16 armed persons, which included women, in this village about 16 km from Tarn Taran.
The incident took place a few days back but came to light today when a case was registered at Goindwal police station late last evening after the intervention of prominent personalities of the area.
Talking to The Tribune, the victim, who is a mother of three sons, said she was still in a state of trauma. She was so badly beaten up that she could not walk even after four days of the incident. Telling her tale of woes, she said she was at home waiting for her family when the accused armed with swords, sticks and sharpedged weapons entered her home and started beating her elder son Gurmit Singh (20). She said when she came to rescue him, she was dragged out and taken to the village chowk where they tore her clothes and molested her.
She alleged that the accused then paraded her naked on the village streets for more than 15 minutes while the villagers stood as mute spectators.
Balwinder Kumar, who is running a private school in the village and an eyewitness to the whole episode, told The Tribune that the accused did not deter from beating her even after she fell unconscious.
Meanwhile, in her statement to the police, the victim claimed that she could identify the accused.
