Bangalore police hunts for associates of Ahmed brothers

Bangalore, July 8
Widening their investigation into the alleged involvement of brothers Sabeel and Kafeel Ahmed and their cousin Mohammed Haneef in a failed terror plot in Britain, police here has launched a massive hunt for their associates in this city.

"We are looking for more people, including associates, friends and those who were linked to the trio," a senior police official, who did not wish to be named, told PTI.

Police are investigating all possible angles in the case, including the trio's suspected fundamentalist leanings, and are trying to track down persons who could possibly throw light on their activities in Bangalore and their network of associates.

"We have not given anyone a clean chit as of now," a top official said when it was pointed out that police were yet to collect any concrete proof against the trio.

"All this takes a lot of time. We need time to collect information, process it and probe other angles before reaching any conclusion," he said.

According to sources, police have identified several persons who had links with Kafeel and Sabeel. However, the sources declined to give details. Police teams have also fanned out to Davanagere, where Kafeel did his engineering course, and other parts of the state.

Meanwhile, top police officials overseeing the investigation held a meeting here today and reviewed progress made so far in the case. — PTI
