2 washed away in Jammu flash flood

Jammu, July 8
Two persons, including a woman, were washed away and several hutments damaged due to a flash flood that hit the Bahu Fort and Sanjay Nagar localities of the city early this morning.

The police identified the killed person as Lakshmi Devi (28) and Suresh (25) whose bodies were recovered later. Lakshmi Devi was washed away from Sanjay Nagar, while Suresh lost his life in a flash flood in Kalka Colony near Bahu Fort.

An unidentified sadhu got trapped in the flashflood near the pier of the bridge, but people rescued him with a rope.

Those whose houses were damaged raised slogans against the government and blocked the road with burning tyres.

Several low-lying areas in the city were flooded and vehicular traffic remained suspended as the city received heavy rain for about 60 minutes.

Reports of rain related damage have also been received from other parts of Jammu division.
