City boy bags 10th position in Punjab PMT Ludhiana, July 9 The results were declared at around 1.30 am on the Internet. Those, who had cleared the exam, celebrated the occasion with their parents and friends till wee hours in the morning. Sharing his experiences with Ludhiana Tribune, Karanvir said when he saw his name in the successful candidates, he was on cloud nine. A former student of Government High School and GGN Khalsa College, Karanvir said he knew that he would clear the exam but with getting such a good position was a surprise. A regular and dedicated student of Aditya Institute here, Karanvir said he owed his success to Almighty and teachers like Dr S.K.Tyagi and Dr Varinder Singh who had so much faith in him. “It is because of them that I have got such a good rank”, he said. Karanvir said security was very tight at all examination centres in Patiala. Officials of DIG rank were put-on duties to see that examination was conducted in a smooth and fair manner. As many as 9,183 students had appeared in PMT this year. Securing 712 marks out of 800, Karanvir has already secured a seat for himself at Sichar Medical College, Assam (through All India PMT). But now he will opt Government Medical College, Patiala. His father Dr Kundan Singh Dhillon is a retired Professor from GADVASU and mother Varinder Kaur Dhillon is a housewife. “Apart from taking classes at Aditya Institute, I used to study for at least eight hours a day”, he said while adding that all depended on students. “It is not that there are no good institutes or teachers in Ludhiana. It is the student, who has to show seriousness and dedication. If people believe that they can get good coaching in Chandigarh or Delhi only then they are wrong. Teachers can just shape-up your personality, rest depends on students”, he said. Meanwhile, four students of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar have also got good rank in Punjab PMT entrance examination 2007. Jasneet Kaur secured 43rd position while Kimi Chhabra and Lakshay Singla secured 50th and 52nd positions, respectively. Priya Goel secured 289th position. |

GGNIVS students secure top positions Ludhiana, July 9 Harmandeep Singh secured first position and Manoj Mehta got second place in BBA (third year) examination of the university. In B.Sc (IT) third year examination, Karandeep Singh topped and Gopal Arora secured the second place. All toppers attributed their achievement to hard work and dedication and blessing of their parents and teachers. In B.Sc IT (second year) examination, the result of which was declared earlier, GGNIVS registered a pass percentage of 90 as against the university pass percentage of 74 per cent. GGNIVS director Kuldip Singh congratulated the students and wished them luck. Manjit Singh Chabbra, Coordinator, GGNIVS said, "I extend my best wishes to the students who have excelled in their respective exams". |

BVP gives uniforms to poor students Ludhiana, July 9 School students in the slum areas were provided with school uniform at the function. The students also presented their skills in the function. Sukhchain Singh, S P City, was the chief guest and Harish Rai Dhanda, chief parliamentary secretary, Punjab, was the guest of honour. Both of them appreciated the projects undertaken by the Bharat Vikas Parishad that include providing artificial limbs to the handicapped, their rehabilitation and several medical facilities to poor patients. The people, who had contributed for the Ludhiana Marathon-2007, were honoured on this occasion. Dr Anil Kalia, zonal organising secretary, Sanskar, was the key speaker, who explained to the guests about various projects undertaken by the Bharat Vikas Parishad. Ajay Datta, zonal chairman, Bharat Vikas Parishad, Narinder Mittal, Dalbir Nanda, Pankaj Jindal, Brij Bhushan Bansal, Satish Singla, Rajinder Sharma, Ravinder Mittal, Ashvani Goyal, Rajesh Julka, Haripal Gupta, Ajay Sharma and office-bearers of all branches of Ludhiana were present on the
occasion. As per the rich traditions ofthe parishad, the function started with Bharat Mata Pujan and Vande Matram and concluded with National Anthem. |

PIFT students interact with professionals Ludhiana, July 9 Those who interacted with students were chief designers and merchandisers from the knitwear industry. Students showcased their collections in latest trends, colours and fabrics. Designers evinced keen interest in collections designed by the students. These depicted combination of the Indian and western fashion in polka dots, office -wear garments in checks for women, stripes and semi-formal shirts for men, 100 per cent knitted T-shirts made and designed by students on hand-flat machines. Knitted gowns for teenage girls with embroidery and crochet works were also showcased. The collection in sweaters and cardigans in various types of knitted yarns with latest printings, washing effects was also displayed. The industry-based designers shared latest trends, colour matching, appropriate fabric to be worn during the winter with the students. |

101 cops given certificates Mandi Gobindgarh, July 9 Tiwari, who was the chief guest, gave away certificates to 101 officers, including SP (D) Shamsher Singh Boparai, DSP (Amloh) Gurpreet Singh DSP (Bassi Pathana) Diljeet Singh Rana and DSP (Khamano) Balwant Singh. The police personnel were imparted computer training from April 10 to May 14. Boparai was presented a memento for securing first position in the test. Chairman of the institute Zora Singh welcomed the guests. |

Demand to appoint IAS registrar in PAU
Ludhiana July 9 In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal, the committee has argued that the university had always an IAS or PCS officer as the registrar. But the practice was discontinued during the previous regime of Badal.
