Sensex Makes History 
Closes above 15,000 mark

Mumbai, July 9
The Sensex today closed above the 15,000 mark for the first time. It touched a high of 15,085 levels in an intra-day trade before closing lower at 15,045 levels, gaining 0.5 per cent or 81 points at close.

In the broader markets, the Nifty gained 0.8 per cent or 34 points to close at 4,419 levels.

Among the big gainers today was Reliance Energy which closed 2.9 per cent or Rs 17 higher. Larsen & Toubro, Bharti Airtel, ONGC, TCS, SBI, HDFC Bank, BHEL, NTPC and Wipro were some of the other gainers.

Among the companies which closed in the red, included Hindustan Unilever which shed 2.3 per cent at Rs 195.

Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Cipla, Grasim Industries, Maruti Udyog, Bajaj Auto and Ranbaxy were the other losers.
