Indo-Pak Tie
Another win for DAV

Hosts DAV Academy won their fourth match in a row by thrashing visitors Lahore Schools XI by seven wickets during the Indo-Pak Brotherhood Cup (Under-15) Tournament at DAV Senior Secondary School grounds, Sector 8, today.

Batting first, the visitors mustered 179 runs in 33.5 overs. Displaying good batting skills, Arshad hammered 73 runs off 70 balls, studded with five fours and a six.

Zeeshan was the other key batsman, scoring 20 runs, whereas the rest of the wickets fell cheaply.

Vipul and Anirudh took three wickets each giving away 31 and 36 runs, respectively.

DAV achieved the target in 29.3 overs. The visiting bowlers were at the receiving end as they were hit all over the ground.

Shivam Pathania scored a half century (58 runs off 58 balls).

The other notable contributors were Vipul and Avinash, who remained unbeaten at 32 and 27 runs, respectively.

For Pakistan, Adil claimed two wickets.

Vipul Chadha was declared man of the match for scoring 32 runs and claiming three wickets for 31 runs.

He was given the trophy by chief guest Y.P. Vohra.

Brief scores: Lahore Schools XI: 179 all out in 33.5 overs (Arshad 73, Zeeshan 20; Vipul 3 for 31, Anirudh 3 for 36)

DAV Academy: 180 for 3 in 29.3 overs (Harpreet 35, Shivam 58, Vipul 32 n.o., Avinash 27 n.o.; Adil 2 for 42, Vicky 1 for 24).

City’s roll ball teams announced

The Chandigarh Roll Ball Association (CRBA) today announced the names of players who will represent the city in the Sub-Junior (u-14) and Junior (u-17) National Championship to be held at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3, Panchkula, from July 12 to 15.

CRBA general secretary Balwinder Singh Johal said: “Chandigarh has some talented skaters taking part in the championship and we hope to see a podium finish this time. We have organised a three-day camp for the teams at DAV Public School, Sector 8, to work on the finer nuances of the game.”

The Chandigarh boys and girls of both categories will participate in all six events in the championship.

The teams: U-14 boys: Bhavdeep Singh Sachdeva, Ankur, Rahul S. Mittal, Arshdeep Singh Sachdeva, Karan Lamba, Shivam Thakur, Vipan Kumar, Gagandeep Singh, Harsimran Singh, Aman Sood, Bisaj Sood and Abhishek.

U-14 girls: Aavit Kaur, Darishvinder Kaur, Sirjana Dhaliwal, Tamanna Maan, Aditi Singla, Manveen Kaur, Tarandeep Kaur, Tanu Gaur, Hasrat Sandhu, Ustat Sandhu, Nana Jaswal and Hasmeet Gujral.

U-14 mixed (boys and girls): Bhavdeep Singh Sachdeva, Rahul Singh Mittal, Karan Lamba, Gagandeep Singh, Shivam Thakur, Vipin Kumar, Aditi Singla, Manveen Kaur, Darishvinder Kaur, Tamanna Maan, Nana Jaswal and Tarandeep Kaur.

U-17 boys: Karan, Ankur, Akshay, Utkarsh Kaushal, Varinder Pal, Arshad, Varinder Pal Singh, Amol Sood, Ankit Bansal, Shubham Chaudhary, Pukhraj Bedi and Harsimranjit Singh.

U-17 girls: Gurleen Kaur, Mehak Paul, Paavan Kaur, Jaismeen, Jyoti Pannu, Jyoti, Divya Sharma, Rashi Chadha and Divya Katyal.

U-17 mixed (boys and girls): Karan, Ankur, Ankit, Varinder, Amol, Varinder Pal Singh, Mehak Paul, Gurleen Kaur, Jaismeen, Jyoti Pannu and Jyoti.

Harish Kumar, Gurdeep Khokhar and V.P. Singh will be the coach, manager and head of the contingent, respectively.

Farheen claims carrom title

Chandigarh, July 10
Farheen of St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, clinched the sub-junior girls’ title of the 35th Sub-Junior Carrom Championship 2007-08, held at Manav Rachana Educational Institute, Faridabad, recently.

Farheen outclassed M. Kanagadara of Tamil Nadu in the final beating her in straight games (25-15, 25-14).

Meanwhile, Chandigarh girls lifted the team championship defeating UP in the final 2-1.
