Bangalore, July 11
An animated video of how a simple syringe can be used to trigger off a bomb has been recovered from the hard disk of alleged Glasgow bomber Kafeel Ahmed by the Thiruvananthapuram-based Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).

Meanwhile, the Bangalore police has stepped up pressure on the family of Kafeel and his brother Sabeel. The police, for the first time since the news of the alleged involvement of the two brothers surfaced, has gone in for intensive questioning of the mother of the two brothers, Zakia Ahmed, and their sister, Sadia Kauser.

Sources here said the Thiruvananthapuram centre had deciphered a 15-minute video of the use of syringe technology to prepare bombs. The London police has disclosed that a syringe holding a charge was used to ignite the blast but the bomb failed because of malfunction of the syringe. The video has narrowed down suspicion that Kafeel could have been actively involved in the making of the failed London bomb. There is already evidence that he had studied advanced bomb making technology.

The sources said the hard disk also contained an inflammatory speech made by Kafeel besides films on Al-Qaeda and speeches of Osama bin Laden. It also contains some “jehadi” material, including images and videos of atrocities against Muslims in Chechnya. Sleuths from C- DAC are likely to visit Bangalore in the coming days to help the local police with items deciphered by them as of now.

Due to the sheer volume of the work, the entire process may take around one week, the sources said.

The disk has also for the first time clearly proved that Kafeel was actively involved in the activities of the Jamaat-i-Islami along with his father, Dr Maqbool Ahmed. According to details in the disk, both father and son were actively involved in religious activism and had taken upon themselves to lead protests in favour of the Chechyan cause and also other such causes.

The police today questioned Zakia Ahmed and Sadia Kauser with regard to the material found on Kafeel’s hard disk. This was done because Kafeel had handed over the hard disk with high capacity of 320 giga bytes to his mother, Zakia, before leaving for the UK, saying it contained important data. Zakia in turn gave the CD to her daughter, Sadia Kauser, a medical student, who further gave it to a friend for safekeeping.
