Roll Ball Meet
Haryana girls emerge winner

Panchkula, July 14
Haryana girls have made the state proud by clinching the national u-17 title of the ongoing 4th Sub-junior and 5th Junior National Roll Ball Championship at Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex, Sector 3, here today.

Jammu and Kashmir finished second, while Chandigarh got the bronze medal.

It was a good day for Haryana as its u-17 boys’ team defeated Jammu and Kashmir 2-1 and Punjab 4-0.

In the boys’ (u-14) league stage, Haryana thrashed Punjab 18-0 while their match against Chandigarh drew at 1-1.

In the u-14 group, Yudhvir Maan from Haryana scored eight goals against Punjab, followed by Vinil and Rekhansh, who netted three goals each.

Naina, Mayank lift TT titles

Chandigarh, July 14
Naina Suri and Mayank Kapoor clinched top honours in the singles of sub-junior girls and sub-junior boys categories, respectively, of the Bhavan Hawks State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament at the Table Tennis Hall, Sector 23, here today.

In a keenly contested final, DAV Public School, Sector 8, student Naina Suri beat spirited Meghna of Sacred Heart School-26 8-11, 14-12, 8-11, 11-6, 13-11, 9-11, 11-7, while sub-junior Mayank (DAVPS-8) too toiled hard to get the better of Aditya Pandey (Manav Mangal-21) 11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-9 and win the title.

In junior boys singles category, Puneet Kumar (DPS-40) set up a title clash with Dev Saini of DAVCC-8.

In the semifinal matches, Puneet thrashed Mayank Kapoor 9-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-5, 11-7, whereas Dev Saini ousted Karamjot (AKSIPS) 11-5, 11-8, 11-7.

The tournament is being conducted by Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27, under the aegis of the Chandigarh Table Tennis Association.

Radhika outclasses Samridhi

Radhika of Manav Mangal School, Sector 11, Panchkula, overpowered her opponent Samridhi Handa of Gurukul, Sector 20, Panchkula, in the finals of the Kids Girls’ u-10 Panchkula District Table Tennis Tournament, here today. The tournament is being held at DAV Senior Public School, Surajpur, near here, under the aegis of the Panchkula District Table Tennis Association.

Radhika displayed consistent power play and never allowed her opponent to settle down, defeating her in straight sets 11-3, 11-4.

In the kids boys’ u-10, Shantam of Gurukul defeated Tanav 11-6, 11-1. The cadet girls’ u-12 category was an all Manav Mangal affair, where Anu Saini defeated Radhika 11-4, 11-5. The cadet boys’ u-12 category was a well-fought tie. Displaying shots and top spins, Shashwat (MM-11) beat Manu (MM-11) 12-14, 8-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-6.

In the sub-junior girls’ u-14, Ashwarya (MM-11) won accolades beating Anu Saini (MM-11) 11-9, 11-9, 12-10.

SJFI annual meeting today

Chandigarh, July 14
The annual general meeting of Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI) will be held at Punjab Bhawan here tomorrow. The meeting is being hosted by the Chandigarh Sports Journalists Association.

SJFI president Sandeep Nakai said the executive committee meeting would take place at 11 am followed by the general body meeting in the afternoon. Representatives of 15 units of the federation from all over the country will participate. TNS
