Immigration laws invoked to detain Mohd Haneef

Melbourne, July 16
In a big setback to Mohammed Haneef, the Australian government today dramatically invoked immigration laws to detain him shortly after a court granted bail to the Indian doctor in connection with the failed UK terror plot. Haneef (27) has had his visa cancelled and will be taken into immigration detention, immigration minister Kevin Andrews announced overriding the court order amid concerns by civil rights groups over political interference. — PTI
