Abducted official dies of heart attack

Guwahati, July 16
Kailash Nath Jha, a senior official of Cement Corporation of India (CCI), who was abducted in Assam's Karbi Anglong district by a militant group close to ULFA, died of cardiac arrest.

"There is no injury sign on the body...He died of heart failure," CM Tarun Gogoi told reporters here today.

Official sources said Jha, who was a heart patient, died after he was picked up along with 10 others at gunpoint by a group of 25 heavily-armed suspected ULFA ultras from a place under Dilai police outpost last night.

The militants who were taken aback at the sudden collapse of Jha, left the place in a hurry leaving behind the other eight employees of the CCI, they said. The body of Jha was handed over to his family.

"Only two others are still in the captivity of the ultras," Gogoi said, without naming the militant group involved in the case. Jha is the second senior PSU official to have died in the state recently. FCI senior official P.C. Ram, kidnapped in April, was killed in a crossfire between police and ULFA last week. — PTI
