Militant attack on yatra, 20 hurt

Srinagar, July 17
A grenade blast at the Amarnath base camp, Baltal, left 20 persons, including a yatri from Uttar Pradesh and a bus driver from Delhi, injured tonight, a police spokesman said.

He said unidentified militants hurled a hand grenade near the entrance of the heavily-guarded Baltal base camp at 9 pm. The injured were admitted to hospital. Nine critically injured have been shifted to Srinagar hospital.

CRPF commandant Parveen Kumar told UNI over the phone from Baltal that the grenade was hurled outside the main frisking gate.

He said the yatris inside the base camp were safe. A majority of the blast victims were locals. — UNI
