Create awareness on non-scalpel vasectomy, says health minister
Panchkula, July 21 She was speaking at the state-level seminar on NSV, organised by the Haryana Health Department at Indradhanush auditorium in Sector 5, here today. The minister said even though it was illegal to marry off minor girls, this was a practice in today’s society. Devi said the NSV technique should be popularised to ensure that the onus of birth control does not lie only on the women. She added that of the 34,000 operations done under the national family welfare programme, 29,000 were for NSV alone. Stating that the Haryana government was committed to raising the standards of education and health in the state, she said as many as 200 dental surgeons and 200 other specialists had been recruited. Parliamentary secretary Krishna Pandit said to encourage men to go in for an NSV, the Haryana government gives a sum of Rs 1000. She said there was the need to hike this amount work appealing to the representatives of the government to work in this direction. The OSD to the Chief Minister, Dr KV Singh, said although the NSV technique was a major achievement in the field of medical science, it still needed to be publicised in rural areas. He said in the last three years, finances to the health sector had been hiked by over two times and the government had sanctioned Rs 50 crore for women empowerment sadans in 500 villages across the state. NSV expert Dr Kaza emphasised on the need to involve men in the exercise. Addressing the gathering, he said when men could be in the forefront in every field there was no reason why they should stay behind in adopting this method of population control especially as it was a painless procedure and required very little time. |

However, there was a glut of goals in the senior men category. Jammu and Kashmir-based Rollar Athlete Club gave a clean sweep to St Paul’s, Ambala. The Jammu team scored 12 goals without conceding a single goal. Harman scripts St Stephen’s win

Panchkula, July 21 The tournament is being played at Satluj Public School, Sector 4, Panchkula. Stephen’s won the toss and elected to bat. They scored 119 runs, losing all wickets in 19.5 overs. Jaspreet and Udit contributed valuable 22 and 20 runs, respectively. Rachit and Karan of DPS displayed precise bowling spell. Rachit claimed two wickets conceding just five runs while Karan took three wickets for 20 runs. In reply, DPS fell short of the target by just three runs. With this win, Stephen’s qualified for the semifinals. Brief scores St Stephen’s School: 119 all out in 19.5 overs (Harmanpreet Singh 40, Udit 20, Jaspreet 22, Karan 3 for 20, Rachit 2 for 5). Delhi Public School: 116 all out in 19.4 overs (Rishab Singh 25, Daman 18, Jaspreet 2 for 21, Abhilash 2 for 23). In the second league match of the day, Satluj Public School, Sector 4, Panchkula, beat Alpine Public School, Pinjore, by a huge margin of 63 runs and qualified for the semifinals. Satluj Public School won the toss and elected to bat, Satluj’s openers batted well and scored 115 runs for the opening wicket, laying the foundation for a big total. Captain Manan Vohra contributed 50 runs and Ankush Dhariwal made 60 runs for the opening wicket. Gaurav Singh and Gaurav Tandan also made valuable additions to the total. Harpreet Singh of Satluj Public School displayed a superb spell of spin bowling, taking five wickets conceding only 18 runs. Karatekas get black belts
Chandigah, July 21 The winners were awarded black belt by Sensei R.P. Singh (black belt Go-Dan), who is president-cum-chief technical director and also chief instructor-cum-chief examiner of the Sector 40-based Karate-Do Indo Ryu Association International. The black belt grading exam was held in December at Lajpat Rai Bhawan, Sector 15, Chandigarh. During this grading period, karatekas were ranked for their expertise and specialisation in different fields that included 13 katas (forms) namely Tae-Ko-Kyu Shodan, Tae-Ko-Kyu Nidan, Tae-Ko-Kyu Sandan, Tae-Ko-Kyu Yondan, Hian Shodan, Hian, Nidan, Hian Sandan, Hian Yondan, Hian Godan, Kata Teki Shodan, Kata Ji-in and Kata Watan. |

Separate competitions will be held for males and females in the age groups of 8-11, 11-14, 14-17, 17-21, 21-25, 25-35, 35-45 and above 45 years. The competitors’ age will be checked as on April 4, 2007. A maximum of four competitors of either sex from each age group can participate. |
