PAU Notes
The university launched a sapling plantation drive on its campus today. Vice-chancellor M.S.Kang planted a sapling on the occasion. He said Punjab could not even dream to survive economically, ecologically as well as culturally in the absence of green cover. He urged that the tradition of Triveni that dates back 4000 years should be pursued for a greener Punjab. This would be our contribute towards measures against global warming, he observed. G.S.Chahal, Dean, College of Agriculture, said vertical greenery was an important part of landscaping. Around 3800 trees were already thriving well in the campus under the care of Floriculture and Landscaping Section. Last year, 18,00 saplings and shrubs were planted and this year 1,000 different species of plants and shrub will be planted in the university. |
Man gets 5-year RI
Ropar, July 25 Ram Piari, wife of Bhagwan Das, a resident of the same village, had lodged a complaint against the accused on April 24, 2006, alleging that, following a disagreement, Ram had attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon. Session judge Rekha Mittal directed the accused to either pay the Rs 2,000 fine or serve two more months of imprisonment.— TNS |
‘Panch Ke Bassi Re’ released
Ludhiana, July 25 Many a litterateurs had attended the function. Dr Parwana said he was happy to release the book as the book highlighted important teachings of the gurus. Chairman of the foundation Pritam Singh Bharowal said,"Such books should be a part of school curriculum of schools and colleges so that the youth, who was moving towards the western world, is influenced in the right direction." Ranjit Singh, a writer from England, had specially come to attend the function. |
