Attack on CRPF camp:2 LeT men killed

Two suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were killed when they attempted an attack on a camp of security forces injuring at least eight Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel at Zakura on Srinagar outskirts this morning. Two others, including a militant, were killed in separate incidents across Kashmir valley since yesterday.

According to inspector general of police, Kashmir Range, S M Sahai, the two militants lobbed grenades and tried to sneak into the 42 battalion of the CRPF housed in the Babha Atomic Research Centre at 10 am today. He said troops repulsed the attack and in the exchange of fire, two militants were killed.

Two AK rifles, eight magazines with 10 rounds, four grenades and two pouches have been recovered from the site of encounter, the police here said while the identity of those killed is being ascertained. Eight CRPF constables injured in the exchange of fire are Manoj Trivedi, Vinod Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Mohammed Salim, Altaf Hussain, Rajesh Sharma, Kalti Kumar and Sudesh Trivedi of 42 Bn, CRPF.

A CRPF spokesman said a grenade was thrown by a militant towards the bunker on the rear side of the 42 Bn CRPF camp at 10 am that was followed by intensive firing from AK 47 rifle. The sentry in the bunker reacted and opened fire at the two militants. One of them rushed towards the bunker and tried to gain entry into the camp. The sentries and guards at the bunkers reacted and shot him dead near the boundary wall.
