30 million diabetic in
India: Expert
Ludhiana, July 27 These observations were made by Dr Ramanbir Singh, endocrinologist at SPS Apollo Hospital, while providing free check up and counselling for obesity, diabetes and hormone-related disorders at a camp organised by VLCC Health Care Centre at Sarabha Nagar here today. Interacting with women attending the camp, Dr Ramanbir said diabetes was a disorder that could be managed and controlled through behavior modification in terms of diet and activity that resulted in the weight loss. But, if uncontrolled, the diabetes could further lead to several life-threatening conditions like heart disease, renal failure, stroke, gangrene and many more. The remedy lied in the avoidance of junk food, regular exercise and living a tension-free life. On the occasion Ashwinder, centre manager of VLCC, remarked that obesity was the mother of all diseases and it could easily be controlled by shedding excess body weight through passive exercising and diet modification. She maintained that the people that were in the high obese category, could not do vigorous exercising. So, losing body weight was the key to good health for such people. Dr Sandra Bali, physiotherapist, Dr Rohit, skin specialist, Rashmi, head of the slimming team, and Kiran Kant, co-manager, were also present on the occasion. |
