2 CPM men die in Nandigram violence

Nandigram, July 29
Violence in Nandigram intensified today, with the death of two CPM cadres and injuries to as many Trinamool Congress-led Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) supporters.

The police said CPM and BUPC supporters fired at each other near the Talpati canal.

The BUPC activists shot dead one CPM cadre at Talpati canal while he was coming to Nandigram from Khejuri and another at Tekhali market.

Meanwhile, two Trinamool supporters were shot at by CPM cadres and rushed to a nearby hospital, the police said.

Fresh violence erupted in the morning as CPM and BUPC clashed against each other.

The BUPC had called a 12-hour bandh tomorrow protesting against the police lathicharge and had gheraoed the police station. Superintendent of Police (SP) G Srinivasan here said the CPI(M)'s zonal committee party office was ransacked and police had to resort to lathicharge to control the situation.

BUPC leader Abu Taher claimed that at least 50 of their supporters were injured in police lathicharge and bomb explosions by CPM activists.

However, local CPM) leader Asoke Guria alleged that three of their supporters had been kidnapped by BUPC supporters. — UNI
