A convict in the case, Naseeb had already spent 11 years in the jail and was able to taste freedom as he had already undergone the sentence period pronounced by the trial court. Surprised at the court’s verdict, Naseeb said he was thankful to the Almighty. “I will pay obeisance at the Sohana gurdwara before reuniting with my family,” he told The Tribune after his release. Among those gathered outside the jail, the happiest person was Avtar Kaur, wife of Naseeb, who had come along with her daughter. Excited on seeing her husband, she said, “I have been offering ardas for my husband’s long life and finally my prayers have been heard.” Interestingly, the family of Naseeb Singh is not even aware of the charges levelled against him. “I am not aware of the allegations levelled against my husband but I am thankful to God and judiciary that they let him go,” averred Avtar. Naseeb was convicted for keeping RDX at his place that was used to make the human bomb, which killed Beant Singh. Meanwhile, the family of those who got death sentence and life imprisonment were shocked. Sister of Jagtar Singh Hawara, Baljit Kaur said, “My brother is not at all involved in the assassination. It was only Dilawar Singh who had planned it.” However, Sukhjit Kaur, mother of Gurkirat Singh, said, “We cannot challenge the decision of the court and are happy with it.” |
