AMRITSAR BARNALA Theft: Thieves decamped with copper wire worth Rs 70,000 from a store on the local College Road on Monday. Last year also, a large quantity of copper wire was stolen from this very store. The local police deputed about 116 community police officers (CPOs) in June to check incidents of theft during night. Residents complain that the CPOs have not been able to check thefts. BATHINDA Held for rape: A woman, mother of two children, was allegedly raped in her house at Kothe Kaur Singh Wala village of the district by Vakil Singh of the same village, when she was alone. Though the suspect Vakil raped the woman on Sunday, the police registered a case under Section 376, IPC, against him on Monday after getting the medical examination of the victim done at the local Civil Hospital. Vakil has been arrested. FARIDKOT
