Manav Mangal gymnasts emerge champion

Panchkula, August 2
Manav Mangal School won the overall championship, beating all other schools of the city during the district women gymnastic festival at Manav Mangal School, Sector 11, here, today.

Manav Mangal School (MMS), Bhavan Vidyalaya (BV), CL DAV, Government Middle School, Sector 4, and Government High School, Sector 19, participated in the event. The event was organised by the district sports and youth welfare department, Panchkula.

The competition included floor exercises, vaulting table and balancing beam events. Manav Mangal secured the first position by scoring 75.20 points while Bhavan Vidyalaya and CL DAV School stood second and third by getting 45.20 and 15.70 points, respectively.

Diksha of Manav Mangal was declared the best gymnast, accumulating 17.70 points. Celeste of Bhavan stood second (14.70) while Megha of MMS (14.60) secured the third position.

Four gymnasts from Manav Mangal School have been selected for the Haryana sports women festival. The team comprises Diksha (MMS), Celeste (BV), Megha (MMS), Jaspreet (BV), Manisha (MMS), Madhuri (MMS), and Jagriti (BV).

Results: Floor exercise:1 Madhuri (MMS) 5.90, 2 Diksha (MMS), 5.80, 3 Megha (MMS) 5.70; vaulting table: 1 Diksha (MMS) 7.40, 2 Celeste (BV), Jaspreet (BV) 7.20, 3 Jagriti (BV) 6.50; balancing beam: 1 Diksha (MMS), Madhuri (MMS) 4.50, 2 Celeste (BV) 3.50, 3 Harshita (MMS) 3.40.

U-11 cricket tourney from today

Chandigarh, August 2
Desh Prem Azad Academy will organise the 16-day Invitational Chandigarh Inter-Academies Cricket Tournament for u-11 from tomorrow at St Stephen's School -45.

Eight teams will participate in the tournament. The matches will begin at 2.30 pm and will be of 25 overs each. The semi-finals and final will be of 35 overs each.

Pool A: DP Azad Academy, Ajit Karam Singh International Public School Academy (AKSIPS), Vivek High School Academy and Kapil Academy.

Pool B: St John's Academy, Shivalik Public School Academy, Guru Nanak Public School Academy and Mohali Cricket Academy.

Athletics championship tomorrow

Chandigarh, August 2
The Chandigarh North District Association will conduct the Chandigarh North District Championship on August 4 at Athletics Stadium, Sector 7, here.

The events, which will start at 9.30 am, will be held under two age groups (14 and 16 years).

Each participant must be a bona fide student or resident of the city and should come with original date of birth certificate and residence proof at the venue before the competition.
