UP student dies of corporal punishment

Lucknow, August 5
Even as the memories of the Udaipur incident were yet to pale into insignificance, another incident of corporal punishment has come to light. A student succumbed to his injuries after being beaten by his teacher in the Kamalganj area of Farrukhabad district in Uttar Pradesh today.

On August 3, a teacher at the Union High School in Ketha - Krishanpal alias Kishan Singh - thrashed Brijesh Prajapati of Class VI for not learning his lesson.

Brijesh was admitted to a hospital in a critical condition, where he died this morning.

The accused teacher had been arrested and sent to jail, the police said.

Ten days ago, a 17-year-old student of a private school in Udaipur died after being thrashed by his teacher. He had internal injuries in the ribs and there was a blood clot in his lung. The Udaipur police had booked the teacher on a murder charge.

In another incident in Hyderabad, a ten-year-old girl was given electric shocks by her principal at Good Shepherd International High School with a view to improving her academic performance.

Threatened by the incident, few students had run away from the school.

Last month, the headmaster of a private school in Mahbubnagar district was arrested for allegedly chaining a Class III student as punishment. — UNI
