Seminar on food processing

Ludhiana, August 8
One-day national seminar on “Application of Engineering Principles and Mathematical Modelling in Food Processing” was organised at the Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET) here yesterday. Delegates representing various food processing industries and scientists from all over India had taken part in the seminar.

Among the new technologies, seminar convener H.S.Oberoi introduced high-pressure processing, ohmic heating, irradiation, micronisation, microwave heating, extrusion processing, fermentation and biotechnology and explained how these processes were modelled and controlled using engineering principles and mathematical equations.

Daljit Singh from Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the chief guest. He stressed on the importance of governing equations which were developed four decades ago and still had relevance in mathematical modelling of all processing technologies developed even today.

KCW students bag top positions

The students of MA (fine arts) have done the college proud by securing top positions in the university merit list for the session 2006-2007.

In MA II, the college has bagged a total of 5 top positions.

Sheenu Jain has been placed second with 87.2 per cent marks, Neha Kaushal is fourth with 86.9 per cent marks and Nehal Jain is sixth with 687 marks. All students have scored more than 70 per cent marks in MA II.

In MA I, Jaspreet Kaur has stood third with 87 per cent marks and Sonia Jain is fifth with 342 marks. Seventeen students have scored more than 70 per cent marks.

Principal, Dr Varinder Kaur Thind, congratulated the students for their success and wished them good luck for their bright future. She also applauded the efforts put in by the staff.

Himani tops in B.Tech exam

Desh Bhagat Engineering College, Mandi Gobindgarh, B.Tech (Ist year) student, Himani Rani, has secured 87.47 per cent marks in Punjab Technical University results that was declared recently.

College principal Arjan Singh and chairman of the Desh Bhagat Group Zora Singh also congratulated her.

The inaugural ceremony of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha,has been organised in Dr Ishwar Singh Memorial Hall. All meritorious students of BA, B.Com, BCA, MA and M.Com, securing first three positions in the annual examinations conducted by Panjab University, were felicitated by the management of the college.

Prof Balwant Singh Pangali, general secretary of the college management committee, exhorted them to lead a disciplined life.

Gurmat camp from tomorrow

Ludhiana, August 8
Sikh Students Federation will organise a three-day annual gurmat camp on August 10,11,12 at historical Bhangani Sahib. Sikh Students Federation national president Paramjit Singh Ghazi said today that Sikh youth would be told about the importance of Gurmat philosophy during these three days.

He said representatives from various students union would participate in the camp. Ghazi said their aim was to encourage the youth to get themselves attached to the rich culture of Punjab, its history and moral values. — TNS
